    < Back Aidan Lin, Executive Director, awarded "Bridge Builder of the Year" for API Heritage Month Thursday, May 19, 2022 Our Time to Act United On May 19th, 2022, Aidan Lin was awarded the "2022 Bridge Builder of the Year Award" at the Asian Pacific Islander Leaders of the Year Awards hosted by the San Diego Business Journal and Asian Business Association San Diego . Aidan was recognized for his work with Our Time to Act (OTTA) United in his capacity as Executive Director for his leadership during the City of San Diego's 2020-21 redistricting process, during which OTTA United partnered with dozens of community-based organizations to push for equitable representation for the Asian, Latine, Black, and youth communities of San Diego. OTTA United is honored to have its principal leader recognized for his work in the community—particularly as a force for coalition-building and intersectional collaboration. As we celebrate Asian Heritage Month, we are proud of Aidan's accomplishments and the invaluable relationships we have built with San Diego's API community. Next Previous

ABOUT THE ROLE THE ROLE As an accountant, you will play a key role in ensuring the financial health and compliance of OTTA United. We are looking for a detail-oriented individual who is a self-learner and eager to learn about financial procedures, policies, and systems. JOB DESCRIPTION Key responsibilities include: Process invoices, write checks, and handle inquiries for workshop commissions Reconcile bank statements Manage reimbursements Assist in preparing the financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements This is the dream job for someone who is looking to kick-start a career in accounting and finance. We accept applications from those at all levels of experience. We are looking for someone who: Has strong organizational and time management skills Has the ability to work both independently and as part of a team Has a desire to understand accounting principles and financial concepts Is passionate about our mission REQUIREMENTS EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE A high school diploma is preferred, although not required if a candidate has exemplary accounting experience. ABOUT THE ROLE Event Coordinators for Advisory Services run informational workshops designed to enhance the organizational and leadership skills of youth, offering them new methods and ideas for their own groups and organizations. Specific work includes creating an event plan, calculating event expenses, communicating with event personnel, and facilitating event execution and wrap up. REQUIREMENTS No prior experience required. Demonstrates proficient forethought and planning skills. High school student or beyond. 6-8 hours, 1-2 meetings a week. Our scheduling is highly flexible. Take, for instance, our recent wins in the past year in San Diego increasing youth and diverse representation in the community planning process and opening thousands of acres of land to more housing development to create more housing opportunities for youth and students . Where your money goes It's important to know what your donation goes towards. Here are our three main categories for use of funds: ORGANIZING YOUTH POWER We organize youth and build youth power by performing outreach, recruitment, programming, training, mentorship, mobilizing, and leadership development to support youth on causes that matter to them. HIGH-IMPACT PROJECTS We run various youth-led, high-impact projects that drive change in specific focus areas. Last year, we supported youth and AAPI voter engagement, redistricting reform, and housing and transit advocacy. TEAM CAPACITY BUILDING When you donate, you empower our young team to organize and advocate for youth across California. Our capacity is also dependent on training, insurance, critical software, and office space. At Our Time To Act, this is our power. When we are successful in encouraging youth to get involved, the entire community benefits. According to our research , youth engagement within decision-making creates more effective representation, fosters pluralistic leadership, and strengthens democratic institutions.   • Mario Varo

    < Back Mario Varo Board Director Mario is a Junior transfer at UC Berkeley studying political science. He brings non-profit experience from the Prison Library Project, and works to empower the community around him. Living in the Inland Empire, Mario has seen how a lack of resources that foster a sustainable future can have an effect on our youth. He one day hopes to be a Professor of Political Science and pay forward the mentorship he received in community college, so that the next generation has to tools to succeed. mario.varo@ourtimetoact.org

  • Muskaan Gupta

    < Back Muskaan Gupta Administration Intern Muskaan (she/her) is a sophomore at the University of California, Berkeley, intending on studying Business Administration and Molecular and Cell Biology. She is passionate about health equity and hopes to pursue a career in which she may work to address it. She has a strong public health background and has been involved in Partners in Health Engage, through which she met with legislators to educate and convince them to support global health equity legislation. She also served as a Youth Advisory Council Alumni Member at FACES for the Future Coalition where she fought for representation of marginalized communities in healthcare professions and general accessibility to healthcare. In her free time, she loves to check out new coffee shops where she always gets her regular (an iced dirty chai latte and an almond croissant). She also enjoys doing calligraphy and paint-by-numbers but has recently been getting back into reading.   • Nicholas Tappin

    < Back Nicholas Tappin Policy and Coalition Representative Nicholas (Nic) Tappin (he/him) is a Political Science student at the University of California San Diego. He has been a San Diego native his entire life, where in his free time he serves as the Legislative Director for the University of California San Diego Associated Students Office of External Affairs. He also serves as a dedicated Board Member of the UC Student Association and as the Vice President of External Relations of the Pre-Law Coalition of UC San Diego. Nicholas has lobbied members of Congress and California state legislators on bills directly impacting students' housing, higher education accessibility, and food insecurity. Nicholas officially joined Our Time To Act in January of 2024 as the Policy and Coalition Representative.
